Dr. Wentzel is the Chief of Staff veterinarian at California Oaks
Veterinary Hospital. His areas of interest are internal medicine,
surgery, dermatology, and preventative medicine. He has extended
interest in abdominal ultrasound and in surgical correction of
stifle (knee) injuries, including cruciate injury and luxating
patella.
Prior to joining COVH in 2005, Dr. Wentzel served for 10 years as a
staff veterinarian in a small animal practice in Wisconsin.
Dr. Wentzel earned his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from the
University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1995.
Dr. Wentzel and his wife, Karen, have a son and a daughter. Their
family is rounded out with a Boxer named Todd and a Boston Terrier,
named Willie.
Dr. Brooke Ashley, D.V.M.
Dr. Ashley joined the California Oaks team in July of 2009. She
received her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from Ross University,
followed by clinical studies at the University of Missouri
Veterinary School. (Is it school or college?). In addition to her
experience as a veterinarian, Dr. Ashley worked as a Senior
Veterinary Technician for 9 years, during her undergraduate years at
Cal Poly, and prior to attending veterinary college.
Her practice philosophy is to "Treat common illnesses uncommonly
well."
Support Staff
Carrie - Hospital Manager
Carrie has been a part of the Cal Oaks team for 8 years. She started
her employment at Cal Oaks as a kennel assistant. Carrie gradually
worked her way to Veterinary Technician, where she was Dr. Miller's
room nurse, and finally to Hospital Manager, where she handles many
tasks throughout the hospital. Carrie says her favorite part about
Cal Oaks Veterinary Hospital is that "the dedicated staff and
doctors are amazing. The technology we have here allows us to create
such a high quality of medicine for all of our patients." Carrie and
her husband, Brian, have 2 children. The family is rounded off with
three large breed dogs and two cats.
Diana is a Registered Veterinary Technician for 10 years,
specializing in animal behavior.
Also licensed with the state and federal government as a Wildlife
Rehabilator and operates a Rehabilitation Center at her home for the
last 30+ years.
She has worked as an animal nurse for for 18 years and loves
California Oaks willingness to help all animals. Her experience with
wildlife is helpful handling fractious pets.
Her personal 'herd' of pets includes: two small dogs, a pretty old
cat, and two parrots and a cockatiel.
